POLYESTER CONCRETE; ITS PRODUCTION AND PROPERTIES /IN GERMAN/

IF THE CEMENT-WATER PASTE IN CONCRETE IS REPLACED BY UNSATURATED POLYESTER RESIN, CAST RESIN CONCRETE OR POLYESTER CONCRETE IS PRODUCED, WHICH, BECAUSE OF ITS QUICK HARDENING, RESISTANCE TO AGGRESSIVE MATERIALS, AND GREAT STRENGTH, CAN BE USED SUCCESSFULLY FOR SOME PROJECTS IN SPITE OF HIGHER COSTS. THE EFFECTS OF THE AMOUNT OF BINDER AND FINES, THE PARTICLE STRUCTURE AND MOISTURE CONTENT OF THE AGGREGATE, THE TEMPERATURE DURING HARDENING, AND THE TYPE OF POLYESTER RESIN ON THE PROPERTIES OF THE POLYESTER CONCRETE WERE ASCERTAINED IN NUMEROUS TESTS. CREEP BEHAVIOR AT DIFFERENT TEMPERATURES, COMBUSTIBILITY, THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY, ABRASION RESISTANCE, DEGREE OF SHRINKAGE, MODULUS OF ELASTICITY AND RESISTANCE TO WATER AND CHEMICALS WERE ALSO DETERMINED. IT WAS THUS ESTABLISHED THAT THE DECREASE IN STRENGTH CAN BE LESSENED, BUT NOT BALANCED OUT, BY THE USE OF MOIST ADDITIVES WHEN CEMENT IS ADDED. GOOD GRADING, CAREFUL COMPACTION AND HIGH STORAGE TEMPERATURE INCREASE THE STRENGTH. REINFORCED POLYESTER CONCRETE IS ONLY STRONGER THAN CEMENT CONCRETE WHEN IT IS STRONLY BONDED TO (PROFILED) STEEL. /FG/RRL/
