INFLUENCE OF THE CURING TEMPERATURE ON THE STRENGTH OF GRAVEL SLAG MIXTURES /IN FRENCH/

THE INFLUENCE OF LOW CURING TEMPERATURES ON THE STRENGTH OF GRAVEL-SLAG, COMPARED WITH THE CURING CONDITIONS AT A CONSTANT TEMPERATURE IN THE LABORATORY IS DEFINED. TWO BATCHES OF SAMPLES WERE PREPARED FROM THE SAME MIXTURE, ONE WAS CURED IN THE LABORATORY AT A TEMPERATURE OF 18C, THE OTHER AT OUTSIDE TEMPERATURES WHICH WERE RECORDED. BOTH BATCHES WERE CRUSHED AT AGES VARYING FROM SEVEN DAYS TO ONE YEAR. REULTS SHOW THAT LOW TEMPERATURES (AVERAGE 3 TO 5C) DURING LAYING SLOW DOWN THE RATE OF SETTING BUT DO NOT STOP IT. THE STRENGTH OF THE SAMPLES WAS 40 PER CENT HIGHER THAN THAT OF SPECIMENTS CURED AT 48C. WHEN LOW TEMPERATURES OCCUR SOME MONTHS AFTER HARDENING THE STRENGTH RAMAINS AT A CONSTANT LEVEL FOR A PERIOD, BUT AFTER THAT PERIOD IT INCREASES MORE QUICKLY THAN IN SAMPLES CURED IN THE LABORATORY. AFTER ONE YEAR, THE STRENGTH OF SAMPLES CURED OUTSIDE WAS 30 PER CENT HIGHER THAN THAT OF LABORATORY CURED SAMPLES. /LCPC/RRL/
