DETECTION OF REINFORCEMENT IN CONCRETE STRUCTURES BY GAMMA- RAY RADIOGRAPHY

THE OVER-ALL INVESTIGATION OF THE CONDITION OF THE CONCRETE POWERHOUSE OF AN EXTREMELY OLD HYDROELECTRIC POWER STATION IS DESCRIBED. THERE WERE NO DRAWINGS REMAINING IN EXISTENCE AND IT WAS UNKNOWN HOW REINFORCING STEEL HAD BEEN ARRANGED. THE PAPER DESCRIBES THE SUCCESSFUL DETECTION OF REINFORCEMENT IN COLUMNS AND BEAMS WITH COMPARATIVELY LARGE CROSS SECTIONS OF 50 TO 100 CM IN WHICH GAMMA RAY RADIOGRAPHY WAS USED TO ASCERTAIN DIAMETERS, SPACING, AND COVERAGE OF STEEL WITH GOOD ACCURACY. /AUTHOR/
