THE OBJECT OF THE RESEARCH IS TWOFOLD: 1 - TO ESTABLISH THE PRINCIPLES OF THE WATER ABSORPTION OF THE LIGHTWEIGHT AGGREGATE. THIS INVOLVES EXAMINING THE VOIDS SYSTEM OF THE LIGHTWEIGHT AGGREGATE WITH A VIEW TO RELATING THE TIME-DEPENDENT WATER ABSORPTION, PRESSURE CONDITIONS AND VISCOSITY OF THE SURROUNDING MEDIUM TO A FEW, SIMPLY DEFINED LIGHTWEIGHT AGGREGATE PARAMETERS. 2 - USING THE RESULTS OBTAINED, A METHOD IS TO BE DEVELOPED WHICH PERMITS THE NECESSARY SATURATION OF THE LIGHTWEIGHT AGGREGATES OR THE ADDITION OF WATER TO BE DETERMINED IN RELATION TO THE DISTANCE TRANSPORTED AND THE DESIRED COMPOSITION OF THE CONCRETE AFTER PUMPING. THE METHOD IS TO BE CHECKED BY PUMPING TESTS.
