COMPARABILITY AND REPRODUCIBILITY OF DYNAMIC SAFETY BELT TESTS

AN INTERNATIONAL AGREEMENT ON THE ADOPTION OF UNIFIED CONDITIONS FOR THE APPROVAL OF SAFETY BELTS REQUIRES THAT UNIFIED TESTING METHODS BE USED IN ALL THE COUNTRIES INVOLVED, WHICH WILL LEAD TO THE SAME RESULTS. PRACTICE IN THE USE OF EEC REGULATION NO. 16 HAS DEMONSTRATED THAT AGREEMENT OF THE RESULTS OF DYNAMIC TESTS ON COMPLETE BELTS ON HORIZONTAL SLEDS CANNOT YET BE GUARANTEED. IN THE COURSE OF THE RESEARCH PROGRAMME CONSTRUCTIONAL PROPERTIES OF HORIZONTAL SLED EQUIPMENT WERE TESTED IN FRANCE, THE NETHERLANDS, SWITZERLAND AND THE FEDERAL GERMAN REPUBLIC AND COMPARED WITH ONE ANOTHER. DYNAMIC TESTS WERE UNDERTAKEN WITH THE INSTITUTE'S OWN TEST EQUIPMENT. WHERE REQUIRED TEST EQUIPMENT OF THE STATE MATERIALS TESTING INSTITUTE WAS INVOLVED (DUMMY, STEEL PROPS ETC). STUDY SHOWS HOW THE TESTING TECHNIQUES MAY BE IMPROVED IN ORDER TO OBTAIN COMPARABLE INTERNATIONAL RESULTS.
