TYPES OF MISTAKES TYPICAL OF LEARNER DRIVERS AND THE POSSIBILITIES FOR OBJECTIVE RE-EDUCATION. PROJECT 2.3: SELECTING LEARNER DRIVERS INVOLVED IN ACCIDENTS

TYPISCHE FEHLVERHALTENSWEISEN VON FAHRANFAENGERN UND MOEGLICHKEIT GEZIELTER NACHSCHULUNG. PROJEKT 2.3: SELEKTION AUFFAELLIGER FAHRANFAENGER.

THE VARIOUS ACCIDENT TYPES AND ACCIDENT CAUSES TAKEN TO BE CHARACTERISTIC OF YOUNG LEARNER DRIVERS MAY BE REGARDED AS THE FIRST STEPS IN A PROCESS OF SELECTION. THIS SELECTION PROCESS SHOULD NOT BE BASED PURELY ON ACCIDENT FREQUENCY BUT SHOULD ALSO CONSIDER ACCIDENT TYPE. THE PROJECT CONFIRMS THE FUNDAMENTAL PRECEPTS NECESSARY FOR THE GENERAL EFFICIENCY OF METHODS OF SELECTION. THE RESULTS OF CURRENT STUDIES INDICATE THAT THERE IS EMPIRICAL EVIDENCE FOR THE EXISTENCE OF RELATIONS BETWEEN TRAFFIC PHENOMENA OCCURRING IN DIFFERENT TIME PERIODS. CORRELATIONS BETWEEN THE FREQUENCY OF OFFENCES OCCURRING IN DIFFERENT OBSERVATIONAL PERIODS ARE IN PART VERY HIGH. CONVERSELY, CORRELATIONS BETWEEN OFFENCE FREQUENCY AND ACCIDENT OCCURRENCE PROVE TO BE COMPARATIVELY SMALL. QUESTIONS CONCERNING THE PROGNOSTIC VALENCY OF ACCIDENTS AND OFFENCES ARE LIMITED TO SPECIFIC POINTS RELATING TO ACCIDENTS AND OFFENCES OCCURRING IN DEFINITE AGE GROUPS AND A THOROUGH ASSESSMENT OF THE "LACK OF EXPERIENCE" FACTOR. THERE DO NOT SEEM TO BE ANY EMPIRICALLY BASED RESULTS FOR STUDIES CARRIED OUT IN RELATION TO THIS PARTICULAR SUBJECT. REGARDING THE INFLUENCES OF AGE AND DRIVING EXPERIENCE ON DRIVING BEHAVIOUR, IT IS STATED THAT DRIVING BEHAVIOUR IS AFFECTED BY BOTH FACTORS. YOUNG DRIVERS (18-25 YEARS) AND DRIVERS OVER 60 YEARS OF AGE ARE PARTICULARLY AT RISK. IN CONCLUSION TO THE DISCUSSION OF SELECTIONAL POSSIBILITIES FOR RE-EDUCATING YOUNG LEARNER DRIVERS, RE-EDUCATION MODELS WERE SUGGESTED IN THE FORM OF A SYSTEMATIC PLAN.
