RESEARCH PROGRAMME TO EXAMINE THE EFFECT OF A RECOMMENDED SPEED COMPARED TO A MAXIMUM SPEED LIMIT ON GERMAN MOTORWAYS. APPLICABILITY OF THE RESULTS OF TESTS TO THE WHOLE NETWORK OF GERMAN MOTORWAYS

FORSCHUNGSPROGRAMM ZUR UNTERSUCHUNG DER AUSWIRKUNG EINER RICHTGESCHWINDIGKEIT IM VERGLEICH ZU EINER HOECHSTGESCHWINDIGKEIT AUF BUNDESAUTOBAHNEN. F.A. 17: UEBERTRAGBARKEIT DER VERSUCHSERGEBNISSE AUF DAS GESAMTE NETZ DER BUNDESAUTOBAHNEN.

ON THE BASIS OF RESULTS OF STUDIES ON EXPERIMENTAL SECTIONS OF MOTORWAYS, AN ESTIMATE IS BEING MADE OF PROBABLE TRENDS IN ACCIDENTS AND TRAFFIC FLOW OVER THE WHOLE NETWORK OF GERMAN MOTORWAYS IF EITHER A RECOMMENDED SPEED OF 130 KM/H OR A MAXIMUM SPEED OF 130 KM/H WERE INTRODUCED. THE OBJECTIVE IS TO ISOLATE ANY POSSIBLE DIFFERENCES IN TRENDS UNDER BOTH TYPES OF CONTROL, AND IN PARTICULAR TO DETERMINE DIFFERENCES IN JOURNEY TIME.
