THE AIM OF THE WORK IS TO DETERMINE THE INFLUENCE OF VARIOUS COMBINATIONS OF THE BEARING CONDITIONS AT THE HEAD AND THE FOOT OF THE PILES, THE SLENDERNESS OF THE PILES, THE DEFORMATION LAWS OF THE SOIL, AND THE GEOMETRY OF THE PILE GROUP ON THE BENDING STRESSES AND THE HORIZONTAL DISPLACEMENTS IN THE PILES WHICH RESULT FROM FORCES ACTING IN THE SOIL. THE COMBINATION OF PARAMETERS IS TO BE SUCH THAT, IN SPITE OF IDEALISATION OF THE DEFORMATION PROPERTIES OF THE SOIL, PRACTICAL RESULTS CAN BE OBTAINED WHICH CAN BE APPLIED TO THE DESIGN OF SINGLE PILES AND PILE WALLS.
