RESEARCH TO ESTABLISH AN EMPIRICAL BASIS FOR THE AREA OF TRAFFIC EDUCATIONAL THEORY

FORSCHUNG ZUR EMPIRISCHEN GRUNDLEGUNG DER VERKEHRSPAEDAGOGIK

BASIC ASPECTS RELATING TO TRAFFIC BEHAVIOUR, AMONG THEM THE ERROR FACTOR AS PERTAINING TO CHILDREN, MAY BE OBTAINED IN THE MOST REALISTIC AND OBJECTIVE WAY POSSIBLE BY MEANS OF ACCIDENT ANALYSES AND FIELD STUDIES. THESE SURVEYS REPRESENT AN IMPORTANT PREREQUISITE FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF EFFICIENT LEARNING GOALS. IN ITS RESEARCH PROGRAMMES FOR 1973-1975 THE FEDERAL BODY FOR HIGHWAYS CONDUCTED APPROXIMATELY 14 SEPARATE SCIENTIFIC PROJECTS. THESE WERE USED TO ESTABLISH SCIENTIFIC BASES FOR THE METHODOLOGY AND DIDACTICS OF TRAFFIC EDUCATION. THERE ARE SEPARATE PROJECTS FOR THE FOLLOWING CATEGORIES. (1) DEVELOPMENTAL AND SOCIALISATION RELATED SUPPOSITIONS IN CHILDREN; (2) EXPOSURE DATA FOR TRAFFIC PARTICIPATION; (3) METHODOLOGICAL-DIDACTICAL BASES FOR TRAFFIC EDUCATION; (4) INSTITUTIONAL CONDITIONS RELATING TO TRAFFIC EDUCATION. THE PROJECTS HAVE BEEN MAINLY FRUITLESS AND HAVE BEEN PARTIALLY CONCLUDED. FINALLY THE PAPER REFERS TO METHODOLOGICAL DIFFICULTIES AND PRACTICAL LIMITS IN THE DISCUSSION OF EFFICIENCY CONTROLS.
