THE LOAD BEARING CAPACITY OF REINFORCED CONCRETE BEAMS UNDER TORSION LOADING ACCORDING TO THEORY AND TESTING

THE CALCULATION OF THE TORSION STRENGTH OF CONVENTIONALLY REINFORCED STRUCTURAL UNITS IS MAINLY CARRIED OUT IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE RAUSCH OR LAMPERT MODELS (SPACE FRAME) OR ACCORDING TO LESSIG (THREE DIMENSIONAL FAILURE SURFACE). BOTH TECHNIQUES LEAD TO THE SAME RESULT. TESTS SHOWED THAT THESE MODELS ARE NOT VALID FOR ALL GRADES OF REINFORCEMENT AND CONCRETE. A CORRECTION FACTOR OF THE THEORETICAL SOLUTION IS DEVELOPED AND A TORSION FORMULA FOR THE CALCULATION OF TORSION FAILURE MOMENTS FOR REINFORCED CONCRETE BEAMS UNDER PURE TORSION LOADING IS GIVEN. EXAMPLES ILLUSTRATE THE METHODS.
