THE PUMPING PROPERTIES OF LIGHTWEIGHT CONCRETE

ZUM PROBLEM DER PUMPBARKEIT VON LEICHTBETON

THIS PAPER PRESENTS A REVIEW OF THE BASIC POSSIBILITIES OF PUMPING STRUCTURAL LIGHTWEIGHT CONCRETE. THE WORKING MECHANISM OF CONCRETE PUMPS IS BRIEFLY REVIEWED IN THE LIGHT OF EXPERIENCE GAINED WITH NORMAL WEIGHT CONCRETE. THE MOISTURE MOVEMENT BETWEEN THE MATRIX AND THE AGGREGATE, WHICH OCCURS IN FRESH LIGHTWEIGHT CONCRETES BECAUSE OF THE PRESSURE, IS EXAMINED. THE NATURE AND EXTENT OF THIS MOISTURE MOVEMENT IS DECISIVE FOR THE TECHNOLOGY OF CONCRETE PUMPING. IN CONCLUSION, EXAMPLES ARE GIVEN OF THE LIMITS OF TWO METHODS OF SUPPLYING CONCRETE BY PUMPING. THESE ARE BASED ON TEST RESULTS FROM A RESEARCH PROJECT AT THE GERMAN BUILDING RESEARCH INSTITUTE.
