PROGNOSIS OF RECIDIVISM FOR DRUNKEN OFFENDERS. A CONTROL STUDY OF VERDICTS ON DRIVER APTITUDE

DIE RUECKFALLPROGNOSE BEI TRUNKENHEITSTAETERN. EINE BEWAEHRUNGSKONTROLLE VON FAHREREIGNUNGSGUTACHTEN.

THIS CONTROL STUDY DEALS WITH THE EXTENT TO WHICH FORECASTS MADE FROM DRIVER APTITUDE TESTS, ARE PROVED ACCURATE AS REGARDS DRUNKEN TRAFFIC OFFENDERS. SUBSEQUENTLY RECIDIVIST DRUNKEN DRIVERS ARE COMPARED WITH NON-RECIDIVISTS. THIS COMPARISON INCLUDES BIOGRAPHICAL DATA, TEST RESULTS AND REPLIES TO QUESTIONNAIRES, RESEARCH FINDINGS AND PERSONALITY CHARACTERISTICS. THE EXAMINATION SHOWS THAT THERE IS A CLOSE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN RECIDIVISM PROGNOSES AND SUBSEQUENT RECIDIVISM. RECIDIVISTS HAVE A HIGHER NUMBER OF TRAFFIC OFFENCES AND INCREASED TENDENCY TO TAKE RISKS THAN NON-RECIDIVIST DRUNKEN OFFENDERS. THEY EXHIBIT DIFFERENT DRINKING HABITS AND THEIR PERSONALITIES MAY BE DESCRIBED AS BEING DIFFERENT. THE IMPROVEMENT IN FORECASTING ACHIEVED BY THESE PREDICTIONS MAY BE GUARANTEED BY THE DRAWING-UP OF A PROGNOSIS TABLE. IN COMPARISON WITH RANDOM COORDINATION, THE PROGNOSIS TABLE ENABLES THE ACHIEVEMENT OF A DECREASE OF ALMOST 30% IN THE NUMBER OF INCORRECT FORECASTS.
