AUTOMATED VEHICLE TESTING AT THE TUEV, RHEINLAND

AUTOMATISIERTE FAHRZEUG-REIHENUNTERSUCHUNG BEIM TUEV RHEINLAND

CONSIDERATION OF THE RATIONALISATION OF VEHICLE TESTING LED TO THE CONSTRUCTION OF A COMPLETELY NEW TEST INSTALLATION IN DUSSELDORF-GARATH, WHICH HAS BEEN AVAILABLE SINCE 1972 FOR ROUTINE INSPECTIONS UNDER PARAGRAPH 29 OF STVZO. THE NEED FOR SUCH AN INSTALLATION AROSE FROM THE INCREASED QUANTITY OF TESTING REQUIREMENTS AS A RESULT OF THE GROWING VEHICLE POPULATION OR SHORTER TESTING INTERVALS; CHANGES OR RENEWED LEGAL REQUIREMENTS; NEW TECHNICAL FUNCTIONS FOR VEHICLES; HIGHER DEMANDS FOR GENERAL RELIABILITY AND OBJECTIVITY; DEMANDS BY TEST PERSONNEL FOR BETTER WORKING CONDITIONS AND TO PROVIDE ECONOMIES IN TIME AND COST FOR VEHICLE TESTING. A DAILY WORK SHIFT CAN DEAL WITH 240 VEHICLES, AND EACH VEHICLE REQUIRES APPROXIMATELY 15 MINUTES TO PASS THROUGH. WITH LESS TIME CONSUMED, THE QUALITY OF TESTING HAS IMPROVED. THE INSTALLATION OPERATES MORE ECONOMICALLY AND MORE RATIONALLY. DETAILS ARE PROVIDED AND PHOTOGRAPHS AND DRAWINGS SHOW: THE LAYOUT OF THE TEST STATION AND ORGANISATION OF THE INSPECTION LINE, RECEPTION, INTERMEDIATE STRETCHES AND WHEEL TESTS, LIGHTING CONDITION, BRAKE TEST, VISIBILITY TEST, EXHAUST TEST AND REPORTING.
