THE PURPOSE OF THE TESTS WAS TO SEE HOW FAR THE SPECIFICATION FOR THE JOINT FORMATION OF WELDED REINFORCED CONCRETE MATS STATED IN THE NEW EDITION OF DIN 1045 GUARANTEE SUFFICIENT SAFETY. AN EVALUATION OF THE TEST RESULTS MAKES IT APPEAR REASONABLE TO DEFINE JOINTS OF REINFORCED CONCRETE MATS MADE FROM REINFORCING BARS ACCORDING TO THE CRITERIA VALID FOR BAR STEELS IN DIN 1045 WITHOUT MAINTAINING A MINIMUM MESH SIZE. IN THE CASE OF REINFORCED CONCRETE MATS MADE FROM SMOOTH OR PROFILED BARS, ON THE OTHER HAND, MAINTAINING A MINIMUM MESH SIZE IN THE JOINT AREA CANNOT BE AVOIDED.
