THE AIM OF THE RESEARCH PROJECT IS TO ESTABLISH BY MEANS OF TESTS AND THEORETICAL STUDIES WHETHER EXISTING SPECIFICATIONS FOR THE DESIGN OF TRANSVERSELY STRESSED WEBS OF DEFLECTION BEAMS ARE ACCURATE, AND ALSO TO DETERMINE THE LIMITS OF APPLICATION OF THE SPECIFICATIONS. DEFLECTION AND BEARING CAPACITY TESTS WILL BE CARRIED OUT WITH DEFLECTION GIRDERS WITH MARKED TRANSVERSE STRESS. THE RATIO MAX (SIGMA) TO MAX (TAU) IN THE SAME CROSS SECTION AND THE RATIO BELT SURFACE TO WEB SURFACE WILL BE VARIED. AN ATTEMPT WILL BE MADE TO DESCRIBE THE RESULTS OF THE TESTS BY MEANS OF WELL-KNOWN THEORIES OF ELASTIC/PLASTIC BEHAVIOUR.
