INVESTIGATIONS AT THE ACCIDENT SITE

THE INTERDISPLINARY TEAM INVOLVED IN THIS ACCIDENT RESEARCH WILL EXAMINE ACCIDENT CAUSES AND CONSEQUENCES, WITH A VIEW TO DEVELOPING WAYS OF PREVENTING ACCIDENTS AND REDUCING THE CONSEQUENCES OF ACCIDENTS. THE FOLLOWING PROBLEMS ARE TO BE STUDIED: 1) THE WAYS IN WHICH HUMAN BEHAVIOUR CAN BE INFLUENCED WITH A VIEW TO AVOIDING ACCIDENTS; 2) THE WAY IN WHICH TRAFFIC IN GENERAL HAS TO BE MODIFIED SO THAT IT DOES NOT CONTRADICT NATURAL HUMAN BEHAVIOUR; 3) THE SAFETY MEASURES BOTH WITHIN THE VEHICLE AND IN THE ENVIRONMENT WHICH CAN HELP TO PREVENT ACCIDENTS; 4) THE PASSIVE AND ACTIVE SAFETY MEASURES IN THE CAR WHICH ARE EFFECTIVE AND ECONOMICAL; 5) THE WAYS IN WHICH IMPROVEMENTS CAN BE EFFECTED IN FIRST AID AT THE SCENE OF THE ACCIDENT, INITIAL MEASURES TAKEN BY THE DOCTOR AND RESCUE SERVICES; 6) THE INFLUENCE OF VEHICLE HANDLING ON THE CAUSE AND COURSE OF THE ACCIDENT; 7) SEVERITY OF INJURY AND MOVEMENT OF PEDESTRIANS IN RELATION TO THE SHAPE OF THE VEHICLE AND OTHER PARAMETERS; 8) ACCIDENTS INVOLVING CHILDREN BOTH AS PEDESTRIANS AND AS VEHICLE OCCUPANTS; 9) METHODS OF ACCIDENT RECORDING AND RECONSTRUCTION; 10) CORRELATION OF THE SEVERITY OF INJURY IN REAL AND SIMULATED PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENTS.
