THE EFFECTIVENESS OF ROAD SAFETY MEASURES OFTEN DEPENDS ON THE WAY IN WHICH INDIVIDUAL GROUPS OF ROAD USERS CAN BE APPROACHED.A PRIORITY TASK IS IS TO DISTINGUISH CERTAIN GROUPS OF DRIVERS,AND TO CHECK THE INVOLVEMENT OF THESE GROUPS IN ACCIDENTS.GROUPS WHICH ARE PARTICULARLY ACCIDENT- PRONE SHOULD RECEIVE SPECIAL CONSIDERATION.THE PROBLEM OF ACCIDENT INVOLVEMENT SPECIFIC TO DRIVER GROUP IS CLOSELY ASSOCIATED WITH THAT OF ACCIDENT INVOLVEMENT SPECIFIC TO VEHICLE TYPE,SINCE THE RESULTS OF STUDIES HAVE SHOWN THAT THE TYPE OF VEHICLE USED IS MOST PROBABLY THAT GROUP CRITERION WHICH WHICH ENABLES AN OPTIMUM CLASSIFICATION TO BE MADE.THE STUDY IS IN TWO PARTS:COLLECTION AND EVALUATION OF EXISTING DATA ON ACCIDENT INVOLVEMENT PARTICULAR TO A DRIVER GROUP OR VEHICLE TYPE,AND A CENSUS WHICH WILL COMPRISE BOTH DETERMINATION OF VEHICLE TYPES WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OF POLICE ACCIDENT RECORDING AND INTERVIEWS WITH RANDOMLY SELECTED DRIVERS.
