DETERMINATION OF STRESSES CAUSED BY THE SUPERIMPOSITION OF DISC THRUST AND PLATE BENDING IN PRESTRESSED CONCRETE BRIDGE CONSTRUCTION

FOR REASONS OF ECONOMY, MODERN METHODS OF CONSTRUCTING PRESTRESSED CONCRETE BRIDGE STRUCTURES DO NOT INCLUDE TRANSVERSE GIRDERS IN THE FORMWORK. ON ACCOUNT OF THIS, CONSIDERABLE BENDING STRESSES FROM THE DIRECTION OF TRANSVERSE LOAD-BEARING, IN ADDITION TO FREQUENTLY HIGH SHEAR STRESSES FROM THE DIRECTION OF LONGITUDINAL LOAD-BEARING, OCCUR IN THE CROSS SECTION OF THE BRIDGE, IN PARTICULAR IN THE WEBS OF THE MAIN BOX-TYPE GIRDERS. THE SUPERIMPOSITION OF DISC THRUST AND PLATE BENDING HAS NOT YET BEEN INVESTIGATED BY MEANS OF EXPERIMENTS. IT IS THE OBJECTIVE OF THIS RESEARCH TO EXAMINE THE DESIGN SPECIFICATIONS WHICH WERE ESTABLISHED ON THE BASIS OF THEORETICAL CONSIDERATIONS, IN PARTICULAR AS REGARDS THE REVISION OF THE GERMAN STANDARD DIN 4227. FOR REASONS OF ECONOMY, A MODEL ON A REDUCED SCALE OF 1:4 IS USED. CONCRETE COMPRESSION AND REINFORCEMENT STRAIN ARE BEING MEASURED BY MEANS OF STRAIN GAUGES.
