SHEAR TESTS ON REINFORCED CONCRETE BEAMS WITH VARYING DEPTH OF GIRDER

MOST OF THE SHEAR TESTS CARRIED OUT HITHERTO ON REINFORCED CONCRETE BEAMS WERE ON BEAMS WITH CONSTANT DEPTH OF GIRDER. THROUGH THESE TESTS IT WAS ESTABLISHED THAT THE RE-BAR REINFORCEMENT DESIGNED IN ACCORDANCE WITH MORS' FRAME STRUCTURE ANALOGY IS NOT STRESSED UP TO THE CALCULATED VALUE. ON THE BASIS OF THIS OBSERVATION, F. LEONHARDT DEFINED THE POSSIBLE REDUCTION COEFFICIENT FOR THE RE-BAR REINFORCEMENT (ALLOWANCE FOR SHEAR REQUIRED). RE-BAR REINFORCEMENT DECREASED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THIS PROPOSAL IS SUFFICIENT TO PREVENT SHEAR FAILURE. AS PART OF THE TRANSVERSE FORCE NOT COVERED BY THE RE-BAR REINFORCEMENT IS ATTRIBUTED TO THE INCLINATION OF THE COMPRESSIVE FLANGE FORCE, NEW SERIES OF TESTS ARE TO BE CARRIED OUT TO SEE WHETHER, GIVEN AN INCLINATION OF THE COMPRESSIVE FLANGE, AN ADDITIONAL REDUCTION OF THE RE-BAR REINFORCEMENT IS POSSIBLE, AND THE WAY IN WHICH THE RATIO B/B(0) IS OF INFLUENCE.
