STUDY OF CREEP AND SHRINKAGE DEFORMATIONS ON THE GITTELDE II PRESTRESSED LIGHT-WEIGHT CONCRETE BRIDGE

IN 1967, THE GITTELDE II BRIDGE WAS CONSTRUCTED AS PART OF THE B 224 ROAD. IT WAS THE FIRST GERMAN BRIDGE CONSTRUCTED OF PRESTRESSED LIGHT-WEIGHT CONCRETE OF THE B 450 QUALITY GRADE. SINCE HITHERTO THE CREEP BEHAVIOUR OF LIGHT-WEIGHT CONCRETE HAS ONLY BEEN TESTED IN THE LABORATORY, ACTUAL CREEP AND SHRINKAGE OF THE STRUCTURE ARE TO BE DETERMINED. ACCORDING TO THE PLAN OF WORK, 3 MEASUREMENTS PER YEAR OF CHANGES IN LENGTH ALONG THE LONGITUDINAL AXES OF THE BRIDGE ARE TO BE MADE BY MEANS OF PRECISION INSTRUMENTS. AT THE SAME TIME, MEASUREMENTS ARE TO BE MADE OF THE EXACT LEVEL AND DEFLECTION OF THE SUPERSTRUCTURE OF THE BRIDGE; THESE WILL BE UNDERTAKEN BY THE RESPONSIBLE HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTION AUTHORITY AT BAD GADNERSHEIM. PARALLEL TO THIS PLAN OF WORK, LABORATORY TESTS ARE BEING CARRIED OUT ON LIGHT-WEIGHT CONCRETE TEST SPECIMENS PRODUCED FROM THE SAME MATERIALS AS THE ONES USED IN THE BRIDGE, SO THAT COMPARISONS CAN BE MADE BETWEEN THE RESULTS FROM THE BRIDGE AND THOSE FROM THE LABORATORY TESTS.
