OTHER PROJECTS BEING UNDERTAKEN ARE CONCERNED WITH THE BEHAVIOUR OF THE TOTAL COLLECTIVE OF DRIVER/VEHICLE UNITS. THE OBJECT OF THIS RESEARCH IS TO QUANTIFY THE BEHAVIOUR OF THE INDIVIDUAL DRIVER/VEHICLE UNIT AND TO EXTRAPOLATE THE RESULTS OF THE OTHER RESEARCH, I.E. TO PREDICT THE EFFECTS OF A POSSIBLE ADAPTATION OF DESIGN SPEED TO ACTUAL SPEEDS. SIMULATIONS AND DRIVING TESTS ARE BEING UNDERTAKEN TO ESTABLISH HOW THE FACTORS WHICH KEEP A CAR ON COURSE CHANGE IN RELATION TO SPEED, SIDEWAYS ACCELERATION AND TYRE-ROAD CONTACT.
