TO EVALUATE THE EFFECT OF A WET ROAD ON VEHICLE HANDLING, QUANTITATIVE DETERMINATION OF WATER FILM DEPTHS IS ESSENTIAL. THIS NECESSITATES A PROCEDURE WHICH ALLOWS CONTINUOUS MEASUREMENT AND DOES NOT AFFECT AND IS NOT AFFECTED BY TRAFFIC. THIS PROCEDURE WAS DEVELOPED IN PREVIOUS RESEARCH AND WAS PROVED IN LABORATORY TESTS. THE PRINCIPLE CONSISTS IN MEASURING THE ELECTRICAL RESISTANCE OF THE WATER FILM IN ORDER TO DETERMINE THE DEPTH OF THE WATER FILM. THE OBJECT OF THIS RESEARCH IS TO CHECK THAT THE PROCEDURE ALSO FUNCTIONS UNDER NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, AND THAT CONTINUOUS MEASUREMENT IS POSSIBLE. A SECTION OF ROAD IS TO BE ARTIFICIALLY WETTED AND TESTED.
