"PARK AND RIDE" AS AN INTEGRAL PART OF URBAN TRANSPORTATION PLANNING. A SURVEY AND APPRAISAL

"PARKEN + PENDELN" ALS INTEGRALER BESTANDTEIL DER STAEDTISCHEN VERKEHRSPLANUNG. UEBERSICHT UND WERTUNG

THE AUTHORS ATTEMPT TO APPRAISE THE EXTENT, FORM OF OPERATION AND EXPERIENCES GAINED WITH THE PARK-AND-RIDE TRAFFIC SYSTEM IN THE SO-CALLED CAPITALIST COUNTRIES AND TO DRAW CONCLUSIONS FROM THIS REGARDING THE RELEVANCE OF THIS SYSTEM TO THE SOCIALIST COUNTRIES. THE APPRAISAL IS CARRIED OUT USING "SOCIALIST" PREMISES; AS MOTIVATION FOR THE ORGANISATION AND EXPEDITION OF THE PARK-AND-RIDE SYSTEM COMMERCIAL ASPECTS ARE OVERRIDDEN PREDOMINANTLY BY INCENTIVES OF A SOCIO-ECONOMIC NATURE. IN THE SOCIALIST COUNTRIES THE PLACE OF THE PARK-AND-RIDE SYSTEM IS CONSIDERED ONLY FROM THE ASPECTS OF SOCIALISTIC AND TOWN PLANNING POLITICS AND AS AN INTEGRATED PART OF THE OVERALL TRANSPORTATION POLICY. IN AN EXAMPLE A SUMMARY IS MADE OF PREVIOUS EXPERIMENTS WITH THE PARK-AND-RIDE SYSTEM IN ERFURT DURING THE PERIOD 1970 TO 1976. SEE ALSO IRRD ABSTRACT NO 305556.
