THE ELIMINATION OF DAMAGE DUE TO WEAR ON BITUMINOUS PAVEMENTS

BESEITIGUNG VON VERSCHLEISSSCHAEDEN AN BITUMINOESEN DECKEN

CURRENT EXPERIENCE IN THE REPAIR OF WEAR DAMAGE ON BITUMINOUS PAVEMENTS IS DISCUSSED TOGETHER WITH THE NECESSARY ALTERATIONS AND ADDITIONS TO THE GUIDE NOTE PUBLISHED IN 1974 (MRV BIT) FOR THE REPAIR OF WEAR DAMAGE. SINCE, AFTER REPAIR WORKS, LANE GROOVES HAVE RE-APPEARED, WHICH ARE ATTRIBUTED TO DEFORMATION OF THE COURSES BENEATH THE SURFACING, THE MIX USED IN THE CONSTRUCTION IS TO BE ESTABLISHED BY QUALITY TESTS AND CHECK EXAMINATIONS. SINCE THE ABOLITION OF STUDDED TYRES WEAR RESISTANCE IS NO LONGER IN THE FOREFRONT. PRESHAPING SHOULD BE LIMITED TO EXCEPTIONAL CASES. ACCORDING TO THE CURRENT GUIDE NOTE LARGER MINIMUM AND MAXIMUM THICKNESS ARE PERMITTED. LANE GROOVES REPAIRED USING ROLLED ASPHALT HAVE PROVED SUCCESSFUL. SOMETIMES SPECIAL FINISHES HAVE BEEN USED WITH WHICH GENERALLY A LEVEL SURFACE ON THE COMPACTED LAYER HAS BEEN ACHIEVED. DUE TO LACK OF LONG-TERM EXPERIENCE DEVELOPMENTS IN SUCH PLANT AND LAYING TECHNIQUES COULD NOT BE INCORPORATED IN THE GUIDE NOTE TO DATE.
