COMPARISON OF WEAR ATTAINABLE BY LABORATORY APPARATUS ON TEST SAMPLES WITH WEARING BEHAVIOUR OF ROAD SURFACES ON EXPERIMENTAL ROADS

VERGLEICH DES DURCH LABORGERAETE AN PROBEKOERPERN ERZIELBAREN VERSCHLEISSES MIT DEM VERSCHLEISSVERHALTEN VON FAHRBAHNBELAEGEN AUF VERSUCHSSTRECKEN

IN CONNECTION WITH THE COMPARISON OF DIFFERENT LABORATORY EQUIPMENT FOR SIMULATING WEAR, THIS WORK INVOLVED MAKING COMPARISONS OF WEAR VALUES OBTAINED IN THE LABORATORY WITH THOSE ON A ROAD SURFACE. FOR THIS PURPOSE EXPERIMENTAL ROADS WERE CONSTRUCTED ON THE GERMAN FEDERAL MOTORWAY BETWEEN MUNICH AND SALZBURG AT HOFOLDING USING THE SAME MATERIAL AS USED IN THE LABORATORY TESTS (SIMULTANEOUS WITH TESTS ON CRUSHED ROCK AGGREGATES FOR OTHER RESEARCH WORKS). A COMPARISON OF TESTING EQUIPMENT SHOWS THAT THE EQUIPMENT PERMITS THE PREDICTION OF MOTORWAY WEAR WITH DIFFERING ACCURACY. THE MOST ACCURATE PREDICTIONS WERE OBTAINED USING THE PERCUSSION-ABRASION APPARATUS (H. TROGER) FOLLOWED BY THE REBOUND-ABRASION APPARATUS (W. SCHULZE).
