PROGRAM SYSTEM FOR THE OPTIMIZATION OF HIGHWAY DESIGN. PART III: FUNCTIONAL RELATIONS OF THE DESIGN AND OPTIMIZATION CRITERIA

PROGRAMMSYSTEM ZUR OPTIMIERUNG DES STRASSENENTWURFS. TEIL III: FUNKTIONALE ZUSAMMENHAENGE DER ENTWURFS- UND OPTIMIERUNGSKRITERIEN

THE SETTING UP AND THE USE POSSIBILITIES OF SYSTEMS PROGRAMS ARE TREATED IN PARTS I AND II. IN THIS WORK THE INTERNAL RELATIONS OF THE VARIOUS INFLUENCE FACTORS IN THE MAN-MACHINE SYSTEM WERE STUDIED. SIMPLE MATHEMATICAL RELATIONS (FOR COMPUTER USE) WERE DEVELOPED BETWEEN THE SECONDARY CONDITIONS VALID FOR HIGHWAY DESIGN PREPARATION AND THE FORM AND LAYOUT OF THE ROAD, AS WELL AS BETWEEN THE SECONDARY CONDITIONS AND THE TARGET FUNCTIONS SUITABLE FOR MATHEMATICAL OPTIMIZATION. BY THE USE OF THESE RELATIONS ON SPECIFIC PROBLEMS IN HIGHWAY DESIGN PREPARATION, ALGORITHMS ARE PRESENTED AS WELL AS SOME REMARKS REGARDING THEIR USE IN MODEL DEVELOPMENT. FINALLY, SOME INDICATIONS REGARDING FURTHER RESEARCH ARE GIVEN, WHICH WOULD BE INVOLVED WITH THE CONSTRUCTION OF AN "AUTOMATED" MAN-MACHINE SYSTEM, IN WHICH THE MAN WILL HAVE THE DECIDING ROLE AND THE COMPUTER THE INFORMATION AND PREPARATION ROLES.
