DOES LANE-RELATED DIRECTIONAL SIGNING ON MOTORWAYS REQUIRE THE DOWNWARDS POINTING SHORT ARROW?

BENOETIGT DIE FAHRSPURBEZOGENE AUTOBAHNWEGWEISUNG NACH UNTEN GERICHTETE KURZPFEILE ?

RECOMMENDATIONS ARE MADE FOR DIRECTIONAL SIGNING ON MOTORWAYS, WHICH TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THE INCREASING DENSITY OF THE MOTORWAY NETWORK, THE ASSOCIATED REDUCED INTERSECTION SPACING AND THE GREATER NUMBER OF DESTINATIONS AS WELL AS THE WIDENING OF DIRECTIONAL CARRIAGEWAYS TO MORE THAN 2 LANES. ON MOTORWAYS DIRECTIONAL ARROWS OF VARIOUS LENGTHS WILL BE USED EITHER POINTING DOWN OR POINTING UPWARDS FOR LANE ADVICE. EXITS WILL BE DENOTED BY OBLIQUE OR CURVED ARROWS. EXAMPLES OF DIFFERENT LAY-OUTS ARE SHOWN. ON THE ARGUMENT FOR USEFUL DIRECTION ARROWS AND ARROW FORMS IT IS ESTABLISHED THAT COMBINED ARROWS ABOVE MIXED LANES AND OBLIQUE ARROWS ERECTED ABOVE EXITS ARE NECESSARY, THAT DIRECTIONAL ARROWS POINTING UPWARDS AND POINTING DOWNWARDS SHOULD NOT BE MIXED IN USE AND THAT THE USEFULNESS OF THE SHORT DIRECTIONAL ARROW POINTING DOWNWARDS SHOULD BE EXAMINED.
