CALCULATION METHOD FOR THE MAIN ROAD NETWORK IN THE HUNGARIAN PEOPLES REPUBLIC

BERECHNUNGSMETHODE FUER DAS LANDSTRASSENNETZ IN DER UNGARISCHEN VOLKSREPUBLIK

IN ORDER TO DEVELOP ROAD TRAFFIC VOLUMES ON LONG DISTANCE ROADS, A SPECIAL INVESTIGATION METHOD WAS EVOLVED FOR SPECIFIC HUNGARIAN CONDITIONS BY FOLLOWING THE METHODS OF THE 2ND CONSTRUCTION PLAN FOR FEDERAL LONG DISTANCE ROADS OF THE BRD (FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF GERMANY). THIS METHOD IS PRESENTED FOR TRAFFIC ON WEEKDAYS UNDER THE ASSUMPTION THAT ROAD TRAFFIC IS DEVELOPING IN PROPORTION TO THE INCREASE IN VEHICLE OWNERSHIP. FOR THE PURPOSE OF ESTABLISHING THE TRAFFIC GENERATED FOR 123 TRAFFIC AREAS, A MODEL WAS CONSTRUCTED WHICH ESTABLISHED THE ORIGIN DESTINATION TRAFFIC FROM DATA ON POPULATION, THE NUMBER OF VEHICLES EXISTING AND TRAFFIC ADVANTAGES. TRAFFIC DISTRIBUTION WAS ESTABLISHED BY MEANS OF A GENERALIZED GRAVITY MODEL. AFTER CALCULATING "SECTION-IMPEDENCE" (JOURNEY TIME) THE TRAFFIC WAS TRANSFERRED TO THE RELEVANT QUICKEST ROADS, OPTIONALLY IN ONE STEP WITHOUT CAPACITY LIMITS OR IN SEVERAL STEPS. BESIDES THE DAILY AND HOURLY LOADING OF THE SECTIONS THE TRANSFER AFFECTED SPEED AND JOURNEY TIMES. THE DEVELOPED CALCULATION METHOD IS TO BE EMPLOYED IN HUNGARY IN FUTURE INVESTIGATIONS.
