SIX YEARS' EXPERIENCE WITH THE LONG-TERM BENDING TEST DEVELOPED BY GUERICKE

FOR THE DESIGN OF ASPHALT ROADS PERFECT CALCULATION METHODS ARE AVAILABLE FOR MULTI-LAYER SYSTEMS, BUT THERE ARE NO METHODS AVAILABLE FOR CALCULATING MATERIAL PROPERTIES. IN ORDER TO COVER THIS, THE LONG-TERM BENDING TEST WAS DEVELOPED BY GUERICKE, WHICH ENABLES PHYSICALLY CORRECT E VALUES AND LONG-TERM BENDING STRENGTHS TO BE DETERMINED. FOLLOWING THE ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF AN ACTUAL VALUE FOR THE LATTER AT A COLLOQUIUM ON THE SUBJECT, THE TEST METHOD IS AT PRESENT THE ONLY MEANS AVAILABLE IN THE GDR, BY WHICH PHYSICALLY CORRECT E VALUES CAN BE OBTAINED IN REGIONS OF LOW TEMPERATURE. THE LONG-TERM BENDING STRENGTH TEST HAS OPENED UP AN EXTENSIVE RANGE OF APPLICATIONS IN THE GDR, WHICH NOT ONLY COVERS THE TESTING OF BITUMASTIC BINDERS BUT ALSO COVERS THE ASSESSMENT OF THESE WITH RESPECT TO THE EFFECTS OF MODIFIED ADDITIVES. DURING THE COLLOQUIUM DIRECTIVES WERE GIVEN FOR POSSIBLE IMPROVEMENTS TO THE APPARATUS AND METHOD OF CARRYING OUT THE TEST.
