LASER-LEVELLING INSTRUMENT FOR RATIONALISED CIVIL ENGINEERING WORKS

THE PAPER INTRODUCES RECENT SO-CALLED "RUNDUM-LASERS" (FOR EXAMPLE THE AGA GEOPLANE 300), IN WHICH THE LASER BEAM IS STEERED BY A SERIES OF PRISMS AND ROTATES HORIZONTALLY. IN THIS WAY A HORIZONTAL BASE EXISTS FROM WHICH HEIGHT MEASUREMENTS CAN BE TAKEN. THE INSTRUMENT HAS PROVED ITS VALUE DUE TO SIMPLE OPERATION, LARGE ACCURACY (PLUS OR MINUS 2 MM WITHIN A CIRCULAR AREA OF 60 METRES RADIUS AND PLUS OR MINUS 1 CM WITHIN A RADIUS OF 250 METRES), AND RELIABILITY. ITS ACCURACY IS SUFFICIENT FOR THE MAJORITY OF CIVIL ENGINEERING APPLICATIONS AND SAVES TIME, PERSONNEL AND MATERIALS COMPARED WITH TRADITIONAL LEVELLING METHODS. THE INCREASE IN EFFICIENCY CAN REACH 10%. THE ASSEMBLY AND OPERATION OF INSTRUMENT ARE DESCRIBED IN DETAIL. IN ADDITION TO VISUAL READING, IT CAN BE USED IN MANY DIFFERENT WAYS USING AN ELECTRONIC LASER DETECTOR: FOR EXAMPLE FIXING IT TO A 5 METRE LONG TELESCOPE TRIPOD. USING EXAMPLES IN EXCAVATION AND GRADING WORKS USING TRACKED MACHINES IT IS SHOWN THAT THE INSTRUMENT CAN COVER AN AREA OF 200000 SQUARE METRES ALMOST CONTINUOUSLY, WITHOUT DISTURBANCE TO PLANT OR PERSONNEL.
