ADHESION-TEMPERATURE-BEHAVIOUR OF BITUMEN AND BITUMEN FRACTIONS

THE AUTHOR REPORTS ON THE MEASUREMENTS OF THE ADHESION OF B 200 FROM SCHWEDT (ASPHALT CONTENT 13% - SOURCE ROMASCHKINO) AND FROM HUNGARY (ASPHALT CONTENT 25% - SOURCE NAGYLENGYEL) WITHIN A TEMPERATURE RANGE FROM 20 DEG C TO 50 DEG C ACCORDING TO THE EWERS/WALTER METHOD. THIS METHOD MEASURES COHESION AS A FORCE WHICH IS REQUIRED TO SEPARATE TWO PVC COVERED LINEN STRIPS EACH 50 CM LONG AND 5 CM WIDE BETWEEN WHICH IS A 95 MM THICK BITUMEN LAYER (SPEED OF DEFORMATION TO SEPARATE THE STRIPS IS 2 MM/S). THE INVESTIGATION INCLUDED THE USE OF THE MALTENE AS WELL AS THE SATURATED, AROMATIC AND RESIN FRACTIONS. THE ADHESION-TEMPERATURE-BEHAVIOUR OF THE SATURATED FRACTIONS OF THE BITUMEN FROM SCHWEDT AND HUNGARY SHOWED NO SUBSTANTIAL DIFFERENCES. THE AROMATIC AND RESIN FRACTIONS OF THE SCHWEDT BITUMEN STILL HAD CONSIDERABLE ADHESION (50 P/5 CM) AT TEMPERATURES FROM 19.5 DEG C TO 42.5 DEG C. IN THE RANGE BETWEEN 20 DEG C AND 30 DEG C THE ADHESIVE STRENGTH OF THE BITUMENS FROM SCHWEDT AND HUNGARY IS THE SAME.
