CHECKING THE CALCULATION OF STRESSES AND STRAINS IN FLEXIBLE ROAD STRUCTURES UNDER THE MOVING LOADING WHEEL (HILPOLTSTEIN TEST SECTION)

IN ORDER TO JUSTIFY THE DESIGN OF ROAD STRUCTURES ON THE BASIS OF CALCULATION METHODS, IT IS NECESSARY TO ESTABLISH THE EXTENT TO WHICH THE METHODS THEMSELVES AND THE CALCULATION PARAMETERS CORRESPOND TO ACTUAL CONDITIONS AND VALUES. BY MEANS OF THE MEASURED VALUE SENSORS BUILT INTO THE 6 SECTIONS OF EXPERIMENTAL ROAD AT HILPOLTSTEIN, STRESSES AND DEFORMATIONS UNDER THE MOVING LOADING WHEEL ARE BEING MEASURED AT VARIOUS SPEEDS AND ASPHALT TEMPERATURES. IN ORDER TO COMPARE MEASURED AND CALCULATED VALUES, SAMPLES OF ASPHALT ARE BEING TAKEN FOR DETERMINING MATERIAL VALUES IN THE LABORATORY, FOR ESTABLISHING THE EXACT POSITION OF THE MEASURING ELEMENTS, AND FOR DETERMINING LAYER THICKNESS AT THE END OF THE TEST. THE VALUES OBTAINED WILL BE USED TO EVALUATE THE WHOLE OF THE HILPOLTSTEIN EXPERIMENTAL ROAD. AN ATTEMPT IS ALSO TO BE MADE TO USE THE SAMPLES TO SHOW RELATIONS BETWEEN PERMANENT DEFORMATIONS, ASPHALT PROPERTIES AND TRAFFIC LOADING.
