THROUGH THE USE OF DYNAMIC OPERATING SYSTEMS ON MOTORWAYS, AND IN PARTICULAR THROUGH THE INFLUENCING OF ITINERARIES BY MEANS OF CHANGEABLE TRAFFIC SIGNS, CONDITIONS OF TRAFFIC LOADING OCCUR AT MOTORWAY JUNCTIONS WHICH MAY BE VERY DIFFERENT FROM NORMAL CONDITIONS. THE AIM OF THE RESEARCH IS TO SEE WHETHER FROM THE POINT OF VIEW OF CAPACITY AND SAFETY CRITICAL POINTS AT JUNCTIONS CAN BE ALLEVIATED BY THE USE OF CHANGEABLE TRAFFIC SIGNS, CHANGEABLE AND PERMANENT SIGNALS AND OTHER DEVICES. THE MEASURES WHICH WILL BE PROPOSED SHOULD BE APPLICABLE TO THE WHOLE MOTORWAY NETWORK.
