LENGTH OF WALKING DISTANCE BETWEEN STOPS: THEIR INFLUENCE ON THE ATTRACTIVENESS OF PUBLIC TRANSPORT

INFLUENCE DE LA LONGUEUR DES PARCOURS A PIED ET DE LA DISTANCE ENTRE ARRETS SUR L'ATTRAIT DES TRANSPORTS PUBLICS/ EINFLUSS DER FUSSWEGLAENGE UND DES HALTESTELLENABSTANDES AUF DIE ATTRAKTIVITAET DES OEFFENTLICHEN VERKEHRS

THE LENGTH OF WALKING DISTANCES IS A FACTOR WHICH INFLUENCES THE ATTRACTIVENESS OF PUBLIC TRANSPORT. WHEN PROJECTS FOR NEW RESIDENTIAL AREAS ARE BEING CONSIDERED, URBAN DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS SHOULD GUARANTEE THAT THE AREAS BUILT SHOULD LIE FOR THE MOST PART (OR ACCORDING TO LOCAL CONDITIONS, COMPLETELY) IN THE ZONE OF INFLUENCE OF PUBLIC TRANSPORT STOPS. AREAS WITH A HIGH DENSITY OF POPULATION SHOULD BE SITUATED IN THE IMMEDIATE VICINITY OF STOPS. EXPERTS IN PUBLIC TRANSPORT SHOULD BE ASSOCIATED WITH THE BUILDING PROJECTS. THE THEME OF WALKING DISTANCE HAS NOT YET BEEN MADE THE OBJECT OF ADEQUATE STUDIES ON A SCIENTIFIC PLAN.
