EFFORTS ARE TO BE MADE TO MAKE UP FOR THE LIMITATIONS OF PRESENT TEST TECHNIQUES BY ADAPTING AND USING MORE MODERN AND REFINED ANALYTICAL PROCEDURES WHEN DEFINING THE BINDERS AND FILLERS TO BE USED FOR ROAD CONSTRUCTION. THE USE OF HYDRAULIC BINDERS, PAINTS AND MATERIALS FOR SURFACE TRAFFIC MARKINGS WILL ALSO BE CONSIDERED. THE INVESTIGATION WILL BE CONCERNED WITH A COMPLETE, RATIONAL AND RAPIDLY PREPARED DEFINITION OF THE CHARACTERISTICS OF BINDERS AND FILLERS AND THE ASSOCIATED ADHESION PROBLEMS AND ALSO WITH THE POSSIBILITIES OF IMPROVING THE MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF COMPOSITE MATERIALS AND THE WAY IN WHICH THE AGEING OF THE MATERIALS CAN BE ADAPTED TO THE OPERATING CONDITIONS AND DURABILITY REQUIREMENTS. THE FOLLOWING TECHNIQUES WILL BE EMPLOYED: SEPARATION OF THE CONSTITUENTS USING SOLVANTS OR CHROMATOGRAPHY (LIQUID AND GASEOUS PHASES), MOLECULAR OR ATOMIC ABSORPTION SPECTOGRAPHY.
