THIS RESEARCH IS A CONTINUATION OF THE RESEARCH DESCRIBED ON IRRD RESEARCH PROJECT SHEET NO. 500447. IT IS CARRIED OUT ON 286 SAMPLES VARYING IN PARTICLE SIZE DISTRIBUTION REPRESENTED IN A QUARTERNARY DIAGRAM. MEASUREMENTS ARE MADE OF THE PROCTOR, SKENTON ACTIVITY INDEX, ATTERBERG LIMITS, PERMEABILITY, SATURATION TIME RELATED, SWELLING AFTER SEVERAL FREEZING-THAWING CYCLES, FROST PENETRATION DEPTH, AND QUANTITY OF WATER ABSORBED DURING FROST WITH A VIEW TO DETERMINING THE ZONES OF THE DIAGRAM CONTAINING THE SAMPLES MOST SENSITIVE TO FROST AND TO STABLISHING RELATIONS BETWEEN PARAMETERS CHARACTERIZING FROST SENSITIVITY. THE RESULTS SHOULD BE USED TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF PAVEMENT FOUNDATIONS
