COMMENTS ON THE EVOLUTION OF HIGHWAY TECHNOLOGY, NEW PAVEMENT DESIGN AND STRENGTHENING TRENDS ADAPTED TO CONDITIONS IN MOROCCO

CONSIDERATIONS SUR L'EVOLUTION DE LA TECHNIQUE ROUTIERE ET SUR LES CONCEPTIONS DES CHAUSSEES NEUVES ET DES RENFORCEMENTS - ORIENTATIONS ADAPTEES AUX CONDITIONS MAROCAINES.

FOLLOWING A REVIEW OF THE EVOLUTION IN THE BASIC DESIGN OF PAVEMENTS (DESIGN AND MATERIALS), THE AUTHOR CRITICIZES THE CURRENT STATE OF DEVELOPMENT OF HIGHWAY TECHNOLOGY VIS-A-VIS THE ABANDONMENT OF THE FLEXIBLE PAVEMENT. HE GIVES HIS POINT OF VIEW REGARDING THE CHOICE OF PAVEMENT DESIGN IN MOROCCO. IN VIEW OF THE CURRENT STATE OF KNOWLEDGE, IT IS DIFFICULT TO ESTABLISH VERY PRECISE DIRECTIVES. IN ALL CASES IT SEEMS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY TO TAKE MAXIMUM ACCOUNT OF THE CLIMATIC DIVERSITY OF THE COUNTRY. THE DESIGN OF STRENGTHENING MEASURES, ARE BASED ESSENTIALLY ON MEASUREMENT OF DEFLECTION AND OF THE CURVATURE OF THE PAVEMENT. LABORATORY CHARTS MAKE IT POSSIBLE TO RELATE THE DEFLECTION, THE EQUIVALENT THICKNESS OF THE PAVEMENT AND THE CALIFORNIA BEARING RATIO AND TO DEFINE, FOR EACH CATEGORY OF TRAFFIC, THE DESIGN OF NEW PAVEMENTS OR OF STRENGTHENING MEASURES. THE REPORT PROPOSES THE APPLICATION OF RULES FOR USE EITHER IN THE CASE OF STABILIZED OR NON STABILIZED PAVEMENTS.
