HIGHWAY PROBLEMS POSED BY THE INSTABILITY OF CERTAIN MOROCCAN SOILS - CONSEQUENCES FOR HIGHWAY DESIGN

PROBLEMES ROUTIERS POSES PAR L'INSTABILITE DE CERTAINS SOLS DU MAROC - CONSEQUENCES POUR LA CONCEPTION ROUTIERE.

THE PROBLEMS ARISING FROM INSTABILITY OF THE SOIL AND THE EFFECT WHICH THIS HAS ON HIGHWAY PLANNING AND DESIGN (PAVEMENT AND ENVIRONMENT) MAY BE DIVIDED INTO TWO MAIN CATEGORIES: THE PROBLEMS RESULTING FROM MOVEMENTS OF SOIL MASSES AND VARIOUS MANIFESTATIONS OF EROSION PHENOMENA; PROBLEMS ARISING FROM THE INSTABILITY OF VERY CLAYEY SOILS CAUSED BY SEASONAL OR PERIODIC VOLUMETRIC VARIATIONS. HAVING EXAMINED IN DETAIL THESE TWO ASPECTS OF THE CAUSES OF ROAD INSTABILITY, THE AUTHOR CONCLUDES AND PROPOSES THE CREATION BY THE MINISTRY OF PUBLIC WORKS AND COMMUNICATIONS, OF A SPECIAL COMMISSION TO DEAL WITH THE FIGHT AGAINST EROSION. THE ROLE OF THIS COMMISSION WOULD BE TO PROMOTE THE STUDIES AND EXPERIMENTAL PROJECTS, TO AMPLIFY AND TO COORDINATE WORK IN PROGRESS, IN COLLABORATION WITH THE OTHER SERVICES CONCERNED.
