A TRANSFER MODEL FOR HEAVY TRAFFIC FROM 3.5 T UPWARDS WAS PREPARED. IT IS BASICALLY A CORRELATION MODEL, INTO WHICH VARIOUS DECISION-INFLUENCING FACTORS SPECIFIC TO LORRIES ARE ENTERED: TRAVEL TIME, ROUTE LENGTHS, PROPORTION OF CARRIAGEWAY OF MORE THAN 7 M IN WIDTH AND PROPORTION OF SPEEDS RESTRICTIONS. WITH THESE FOUR LIMITING QUANTITIES AND AN ADDED EXTENSION TO THE MODEL, THE DEGREE OF VALIDITY OBTAINED IS OVER 96%. THE USER IS ALSO FREE TO OPERATE THE MODEL WITH LESS THAN FOUR LIMITING QUANTITIES OR INFLUENCE FACTORS, BUT THE ACCURACY OF THE RESULTS IS CORRESPONDINGLY REDUCED. HOWEVER, EVEN WHERE THE TIME IS TAKEN AS THE ONLY LIMITING QUANTITY, A DEGREE OF VALIDITY OF NEARLY 69% MAY BE ACHIEVED. THE MODEL IS SUITABLE NOT ONLY FOR DUAL MODAL SPLIT, BUT ALSO FOR A COMPLETE NETWORK AND IS SUITABLE ALSO FOR A SEARCH FOR OPTIMUM ROUTES, IN THE LATTER CASE THE TRAVEL TIME IS TAKEN AS THE "OPTIMUM-RESISTANCE".
