THE ULTIMATE BEARING CAPACITY OF BORED PILES IN WEATHERED KEUPER MARL

THIS REPORT DEALS WITH ASPECTS OF THE BEARING BEHAVIOUR OF PREFABRICATED REINFORCED CONCRETE PILES AND IS BASED ON THE RESULTS OF 160 LOAD TESTS UNDERTAKEN IN SOILS OF DIFFERENT TYPES IN ROMANIA. THE NON-LINEAR LOAD MOVEMENT RELATION IS REPRESENTED BY THE VARIATION IN "TRANSVERSE RIGIDITY" AND CORRESPONDS TO THE SECANT MODULUS OF A POINT ON THE LOAD MOVEMENT GRAPH. THE REPORT DESCRIBES A TECHNIQUE FOR DETERMINING CRITICAL LOAD ON THE BASIS OF A LOAD MOVEMENT DIAGRAM. TEST RESULTS BASED ON THE THEORY OF ELASTICALLY SUPPORTED BEAMS ARE EVALUATED WITH THE AID OF THE WINKLER SOIL MODEL. THE LINEARLY INCREASING SOIL MODULUS K = N.Z APPEARED TO CORRESPOND FAVOURABLY WITH THE TEST RESULTS. IN ADDITION GRAPHS ARE PROVIDED WHICH REPRESENT THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE PARAMETER (N) AND THE MOVEMENT OF THE PILE (Y) TOWARDS THE SOIL SURFACE IN DIFFERENT SOIL TYPES. BY MEANS OF THESE GRAPHS IT IS POSSIBLE TO REPRESENT THE LOAD-MOVEMENT RELATION IN THE PRELIMINARY STAGES OF PLANNING. THE COVERING ABSTRACT FOR THE CONFERENCE IS IRRD NO 306088.
