AUTOMATIC ROAD TRAFFIC COUNTS. THE ANNUAL ASSESSMENT FOR 1975

AUTOMATISCHE STRASSENVERKEHRSZAEHLUNG, JAHRESAUSWERTUNG 1975

AT PRESENT, THE NETWORK OF COUNT MONITORS COMPRISES 65 CROSS SECTIONS FOR THE ASSIMILATION OF TRAFFIC VOLUMES. IN ADDITION, OF THESE COUNT APPARATUSES, 7 ARE SUITABLE FOR SPEED MEASUREMENT AND 7 DESIGNED FOR VEHICLE DIFFERENTIATION. AVERAGE DAILY TRAFFIC FOR 1975 INCREASED BY 5.2% COMPARED TO THE PREVIOUS YEAR. IN CONTRAST, FUEL CONSUMPTION INCREASED BY 2.7% AND THE TOTAL NUMBER OF PRIVATE VEHICLES INCREASED BY 4.9%. DIFFERENTIATION INTO TRAFFIC TYPES, SHOWS THAT STATISTICS FOR LEISURE TRAFFIC ROSE ONLY SLIGHTLY FOLLOWING THE DOWNWARD TREND IN INDUSTRY AND TRAFFIC FOR 1973 WHILE THE WEEK DAY TRAFFIC FOLLOWS THE TREND. TABLES PROVIDED CONTAIN PARTICULARS RELATING TO AVERAGE DAILY TRAFFIC TAKING A MAXIMUM HOURLY VALUE OF 30. HOURLY VALUES WERE DIFFERENTIATED ACCORDING TO TRAFFIC TYPES, THE DEVELOPMENT OF ADT FROM 1970 TO 1975 AND SUNDAY AND HOLIDAY TRAFFIC. DIAGRAMS INDICATE LINES REPRESENTING THE ANNUAL PROGRESSION OF DAILY TRAFFIC, PEAK HOURS OR HOURLY DIFFERENTIATIONS, FREQUENCY DISTRIBUTIONS OF THE 200 HOURS WITH THE HIGHEST TRAFFIC DENSITY, RELATIVE DAILY PROGRESSIONS, ANNUAL PROGRESSIONS, PROGRESSIONS OF AVERAGE SPEED AT PEAK HOURS AND THE INTERDEPENDENCE OF AVERAGE SPEED AND TRAFFIC DENSITY.
