THE RESEARCHER HAS DEVELOPED A METHOD FOR THE DESIGN OF CONTINUOUS SYSTEMS WITHOUT GIRDERS, BY MEANS OF WHICH ALL CUTTING FORCES CAN BE ILLUSTRATED IN A CLOSED SYSTEM. THE BASIS OF THE CALCULATION IS A GIRDER GRID SYSTEM WITH AN INFINITE NUMBER OF INFINITELY NARROW TRANSVERSE BEAMS. THE STUDY SHOWS THAT THE CUTTING FORCES ARE MAINLY DEPENDENT ON TWO STIFFNESS CONSTANTS, ONE BEAM CONSTANT AND ONE GIRDER GRID CONSTANT. THE RESEARCH IS TO EXAMINE THE EXTENT TO WHICH THE STIFFNESS CONSTANTS AND THE SUPPORT WIDTHS HAVE TO BE VARIED TO DESCRIBE SUFFICIENTLY ALL SYSTEMS WHICH OCCUR. THE ELASTIC BEDDING OF THE PLATE INTO THE BODY OF THE BEAM IS ALSO TO BE EXAMINED ACCORDING TO DISC THEORY.
