SUBSEQUENT REINFORCING OF REINFORCED CONCRETE AND PRESTRESSED CONCRETE CROSS SECTIONS

A STUDY IS BEING MADE OF THE REINFORCEMENT OF PLATE BEAM AND BOX GIRDER BEAM CROSS SECTIONS BY MEANS OF REINFORCED CONCRETE LAMELLAE, THE CONNECTION BETWEEN EXISTING CONCRETE PART AND THE LAMELLA BEING MADE BY DOWELS SET INTO BOREHOLES. IN PARTICULAR FATIGUE BEHAVIOUR IS TO BE TESTED. THE OBJECT IS TO DEVELOP DESIGN PRINCIPLES FOR DOWELLED CONNECTIONS ON THE ASSUMPTION THAT THEIR SLIP SHOULD REMAIN VERY SMALL. THIS METHOD OF REINFORCEMENT IS BEING CONSIDERED FOR THE REPAIR OF DAMAGED COUPLINGS IN PRESTRESSED CONCRETE BRIDGES.
