SPRUNG CABINS FOR UNSPRUNG CROSS-COUNTRY VEHICLES

ABGEFEDERTE KABINE FUER UNGEFEDERTE GELAENDEFAHRZEUGE

THE REPORT IS CONCERNED WITH THE LOW LEVEL OF COMFORT IN UNSPRUNG CROSS-COUNTRY VEHICLES AND SELF-PROPELLED MACHINES WHEN THESE ARE IN MOTION. FROM EXPERIENCE GAINED WITH THE PROTOTYPE IT CAN BE CONCLUDED THAT A CABIN SPRUNG "SOFTLY" IN SEVERAL DIRECTIONS, AS LONG AS IT IS PROPERLY LAID OUT, WILL LEAD TO A SIGNIFICANT IMPROVEMENT IN COMFORT FOR THE DRIVER. IT SEEMS, FURTHERMORE, THAT A COMPLETELY SPRUNG CABIN IS ALSO A STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION TOWARDS BETTER SOUND INSULATION FOR THE DRIVER BECAUSE OF THE AIR CUSHION BETWEEN THE CABIN AND THE VEHICLE. THESE CONDITIONS CAN BEST BE BROUGHT ABOUT IF THE DESIGN OF A SPRUNG CABIN IS INTEGRATED WITH THE DESIGN OF THE VEHICLE ITSELF. WHETHER THE SPRUNG CABIN BECOMES MORE WIDELY ADOPTED WITHIN THE FORESEEABLE FUTURE DEPENDS ON THE IMPORTANCE WHICH THE USERS OF THESE VEHICLES ATTACH TO A HIGH GRADE OF COMFORT FOR THEIR DRIVERS, AND TO THE HIGHER PERFORMANCE LEVEL MADE POSSIBLE BY THIS ADDED COMFORT.
