PEDESTRIAN LEG INJURIES, THE BUMPER AND OTHER FRONT STRUCTURES

THE TYPES OF INJURIES ARE DESCRIBED WHICH A TEST GROUP OF 211 PEDESTRIANS SUFFERED WHEN IN COLLISION WITH THE FRONT OF VEHICLES AND VANS. SPECIAL ATTENTION WAS PAID TO THE TYPE, CAUSE AND SEVERITY OF LEG AND PELVIS INJURIES. THE INFLUENCE OF HEIGHT AND FORM OF BUMPERS ON THE POSITION AND APPEARANCE OF FRACTURES CAUSED BY BUMPERS ARE INVESTIGATED. POSSIBILITIES OF IMPROVING THE FRONT END OF VEHICLES ARE INVESTIGATED BY WAY OF A COMPARISON BETWEEN THE SEVERITY OF ACTUAL ACCIDENTS AND THE SEVERITY OF INJURIES WHICH WOULD HAVE BEEN SUFFERED, IF THE VEHICLE HAD NOT CAUSED A LEG INJURY. FOR THE COVERING ABSTRACT OF THE CONFERENCE SEE IRRD NO 307340.
