CRASH EXPERIMENTS WITH CARS FOR CHECKING MATHEMATICAL RECONSTRUCTIONS OF REAL ACCIDENTS

CRASHVERSUCHE MIT PKW ZUR KONTROLLE DER MATHEMATISCHEN REKONSTRUKTION REALER UNFAELLE

TESTS WERE MADE TO CHECK HOW FAR THE RESULTS OBTAINED BY KNOWN CALCULATION METHODS AND ON THE SOLE BASIS OF FACTORS AVAILABLE AFTER A COLLISION (TRACKS, DAMAGE ETC) AGREED WITH KNOWN REALITIES BASED ON EXPERIMENTAL CONDITIONS. THIS ASSUMED THE AVAILABILITY OF GENERAL RESULTS TO BE ABLE TO RECOGNIZE THE RELATIVE INFLUENCE OF VARIOUS PARAMETERS. THE EXPERT IS GIVEN DIRECT HELP BY HAVING COMPARABLE CASES ON THE BASIS OF POSSIBLE VARIATIONS OF VEHICLE TYPES, SPEED AND COLLISION POSITIONS RELATED TO REAL ACCIDENTS. FURTHER, THEORETICAL POSSIBILITIES WERE WORKED OUT IN ORDER TO IMPROVE THE RECONSTRUCTION OF ACCIDENTS ON THE BASIS OF EXPRESSIONS FOR IMPULSE AND/OR ENERGY. IN ADDITION, THE MECHANISM OF PERMANENT DEFORMATION WAS MADE COMPREHENSIBLE AND PRACTICABLE FOR FORENSIC WORK. FINALLY, IT WAS POSSIBLE TO CONSIDER SPECIALLY THE INFLUENCE OF THE IMPACT FACTOR K AND THE PROBLEM CONCERNING THE CORRELATION BETWEEN THE CHANGE IN VELOCITY DV AND THE EQUIVALENT VELOCITY AT IMPACT. FOR A NUMBER OF TEST EXAMPLES FULL MATHEMATICAL COLLISION ANALYSES WERE CARRIED OUT IN ORDER TO CONSOLIDATE THE MECHANICAL LAWS OF IMPACT AND ACHIEVE A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS.
