WITH THE AUTOMATION OF THE CLUTCH AND GEAR CHANGING PROCEDURE, THE DRIVER OF A CAR IS RELIEVED OF SOME OF HIS BURDEN AND THUS AN IMPROVEMENT IN DRIVING SAFETY IS EFFECTED. IN THE PAST YEARS, MANY VARYING TYPES OF AUTOMATION HAVE BEEN DEVELOPED. THE TRILOK-CONVERTER HAS BECOME THE MOST POPULAR, WHICH WORKS IN CONJUNCTION WITH A PLANETARY GEARBOX WHICH IS ACTUATED AUTOMATICALLY BY A HYDRAULIC CONTROL SYSTEM WITHOUT A BREAK IN THE DRIVE TORQUE. THE THREE-SPEED AUTOMATIC WILL ALSO BE PREVALENT IN COMING YEARS. FINALLY WITH THE COMING OF A CENTRALISED ELECTRONIC CONTROL SYSTEM IN THE CAR, THE CONTROL OF THE AUTOMATIC GEARBOX WILL CHANGE FROM A PURELY HYDRAULIC TO A COMBINED ELECTRONIC-HYDRAULIC SYSTEM. THE QUALITY OF AN AUTOMATIC GEARBOX IS DEPENDENT UPON THE QUALITY OF THE LOAD TRANSFER PROCESS. THE DETERMINING FACTOR FOR THIS IS THE AMOUNT OF ANGULAR ACCELERATION OF THE GEARBOX DRIVE SHAFT DURING THE CHANGING PROCESS.
