THE EFFECT OF A BETA-RECEPTOR BLOCKER UPON DRIVING APTITUDE

DIE AUSWIRKUNGEN EINES BETA-REZEPTORENBLOCKERS AUF DIE KRAFTFAHREIGNUNG

IN ORDER TO TEST THE EFFECT OF A BETA-RECEPTOR BLOCKER UPON DRIVING APTITUDE, 2 GROUPS OF HEART/CIRCULATORY PATIENTS FROM A CONVALESCENT HOME UNDERTOOK DIFFERENT TRIALS IN IDLE AND ACUTE CONDITIONS. FROM THE RESULTS IT CAN BE STATED THAT THE INSERTION OF A BETA-RECEPTOR BLOCKER HAS A PREDOMINANTLY POSITIVE EFFECT UPON DRIVING ABILITY, BECAUSE A NOTICEABLE IMPROVEMENT OF THE FUNDAMENTAL DRIVING PERFORMANCE AND QUALITY WAS ASCERTAINED. THE FACT MUST BE TAKEN INTO CONSIDERATION THAT THE STAY IN THE CONVALESCENT HOME WILL HAVE REDUCED THE STRESS UPON THE PATIENT, BUT THIS MAY BE OFFSET AGAINST CERTAIN NEGATIVE EFFECTS SUCH AS HIS REMOVAL FROM HIS USUAL ENVIRONMENT. AS A RESULT OF THESE TESTS IT WILL NOW BE POSSIBLE TO UNDERTAKE NECESSARY LONG-TERM TRIALS TO CONFIRM OR REFUTE THE POSITIVE EFFECTS OF A BETA-RECEPTOR BLOCKER UPON DRIVING ABILITY. THE QUALIFICATION OF THE MEDICAMENT IN QUESTION TO REDUCE THE NERVOUSNESS, EXCITABILITY AND AGGRESSIVENESS OF MANY DRIVERS WITH HEART/CIRCULATION CONDITIONS NEEDS TO BE PSYCHOLOGICALLY TESTED BECAUSE THESE PSYCHOLOGICAL CONDITION QUALITIES IMPEDE THE NECESSARY ADAPTATION FOR THE PRESERVATION OF ACCIDENT FREE TRAFFIC.
