UNTIL NOW THERE HAS NOT BEEN A METHOD OF CALCULATING IN A SIMPLE WAY THE SHEAR FRACTURE LOAD OF PRESTRESSED CONCRETE BEAMS. NEW TESTS ON THE SHEAR STRENGTHS OF PRESTRESSED BEAMS HAVE MADE IT POSSIBLE TO EXPAND THE SEMI-EMPIRICAL FORMULAE FOR THE CALCULATION OF THE SHEAR CRACKING AND SHEAR FRACTURE LOADS OF SINGLY-REINFORCED SINGLE-SPAN AND CONTINUOUS BEAMS, USING A MULTIPLIER (EFFECT OF PRESTRESSING FORCE) AND AN ADDITIVE TERM (EFFECT OF SLOPE OF PRESTRESSING TENDON), IN SUCH A WAY THAT THE RESULTS IN RESPECT OF ALL THREE POSSIBLE MODES OF SHEAR FRACTURE ARE SUFFICIENTLY ACCURATE FOR DESIGN PURPOSES.
