EVALUATION OF VIBRATION DAMPING ON PRIVATE VEHICLES

SCHWINGUNGSDAEMPFERAUSWERTUNG AN PERSONENKRAFTWAGEN

AN EVALUATION OF VIBRATION DAMPING WAS CARRIED OUT ON 4061 VEHICLES IN THE POWERED VEHICLES SECTION OF THE ALLIANZ CENTRE FOR TECHNOLOGY. 38.8% OF ALL VEHICLES HAD AT LEAST ONE DEFECTIVE SHOCK ABSORBER, OR ONE THAT WAS NEARLY DEFECTIVE. WHEN RELATING THIS PERCENTAGE TO THE TOTAL NUMBER OF PRIVATE VEHICLES IN THE GERMAN FEDERAL REPUBLIC THE LARGE FIGURE OF 7.5 MILLION PRIVATE VEHICLES RESULTS. CONSIDERING ONLY THE VEHICLES WITH 4 DEFECTIVE, OR NEARLY DEFECTIVE, SHOCK ABSORBERS, A PERCENTAGE FIGURE OF 4.78 OF ALL VEHICLES WILL RESULT IN A FIGURE OF OVER 1 MILLION VEHICLES. THIS LARGE NUMBER OF VEHICLES MUST BE A STRONG REASON FOR POINTING OUT TO DRIVERS THE SIGNIFICANCE OF VIBRATION DAMPERS FOR THE SAFETY IN DRIVING. FOR THIS REASON, MORE ATTENTION SHOULD BE PAID TO SHOCK ABSORBERS DURING INSPECTION AND MAINTENANCE IN WORKSHOPS THAN HAS BEEN THE RULE IN THE PAST.
